Privacy Policy

DV Music Lessons ("we," "us," or "our") is a free community service operated by Friends of Historic Memorial Hall, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Wilmington, Vermont. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it.

Information We Collect

Teachers. When you create a teacher profile, we collect your name, email address, password (hashed — we never store it in plain text), biography, photo, introductory video URL, instruments taught, experience levels, age ranges, location preference, availability, and optional rate information. You may also provide a preferred contact method (email or phone number) that will be shared with matched students.

Students.When you create a student profile, we collect your name (and a parent or guardian name if the student is a minor), the student's name and age, email address, password (hashed), instrument interests, experience level, preferred lesson location, and availability. Students are never listed publicly.

Usage data. We collect basic server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security and operational purposes. We do not use analytics that track you across other websites.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide to:

• Match students with teachers based on instrument, age, availability, and location
• Send email notifications when a match is found
• Display approved teacher profiles to matched students
• Send transactional emails related to your account (confirmations, approval status, match notifications)
• Allow admins to review teacher applications before approval

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to third parties, or any commercial purpose. We do not sell your data.

Information Shared With Others

Teacher contact information (email address or phone number, per your preference) is shared with students only after your profile has been approved and a match has been identified. You control what contact information you provide.

Student information is private. Student profiles are never displayed publicly and are never shared with teachers individually. Teachers see only aggregate demand data (e.g., how many students are looking for guitar lessons).

We share data with the following service providers solely to operate the platform:

• Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com)
• Resend — transactional email delivery (resend.com)
• Vercel — web hosting (vercel.com)

Each provider is bound by their own privacy policy and data processing agreements. We do not share data with any other third parties.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you would like your account and associated data deleted, email us at hello@dvmusiclessons.com and we will remove it within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Students under 13 must be registered by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental involvement. Student profiles are private and never displayed publicly.

Security

Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted to authorized administrators and the platform itself. We follow Supabase's Row Level Security model to ensure users can only access their own data.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Withdraw consent for email notifications at any time via your account settings

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify registered users by email. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
